What
is ONSPEED?
|

How
does ONSPEED work
As you cannot physically change the speed of your Internet connection,
ONSPEED uses a technology called Content Sensitive Compression ('CSC')
to individually compress each element of a web page or email content
using various compression algorithms based on a nine Patent approved
proprietary technology.
The end result is that your web pages and emails (PC only) load and
download as quickly as if you were on a Broadband connection.
When your web browser requests a Web Page, the ONSPEED software redirects
that request to the ONSPEED Compression Servers. They take the respective
Web Page content, compresses it and sends it back down to the ONSPEED
software which decompresses it and sends it to the Browser requesting
the information. At the moment we have dedicated algorithms for:
 |
 |
Photo-realistic images (e.g., JPEG, PNG, GIF, and
BMP) |
 |
 |
Line Art and Drawings (e.g., GIF, BMP) |
 |
 |
Animated objects (GIF) |
 |
 |
HTML objects |
 |
 |
Text, etc |
 |
 |
Office Documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) |
 |
 |
Macromedia Flash |
Any data elements that we do not have a dedicated algorithm for gets
compressed using a generic compression algorithm. This ensures that
we can still get a 20-30% speed increase on these elements.
We are constantly working on new algorithms to improve and enhance
our service. By late 2005 we will have MP3 files, flash, and Mpeg4 for
video available, achieving a 300% - 500% speed increase. You will automatically
get notified when this occurs.

streaming media content (over FTP or file sharing programs).
In future, ONSPEED are looking to add these features.

It compresses the data received hence speeding up your web browsing
experience. ONSPEED does not replace your existing Internet
Service Provider (ISP) and is to be used in conjunction with

What
internet connection does ONSPEED work with and does
ONSPEED replace my existing Internet Service Provider
(ISP)?
ONSPEED works on all analogue dial up connections,
and all digital dial up connections (broadband and ISDN)
with a speed of under 300kbps (Excl. VPN's and certain
satellite connections) . ONSPEED does not replace your
existing connection, it makes your current connection
faster.

|

Does
ONSPEED work in my country?
ONSPEED works in any country worldwide. (excl. certain
Middle East countries who connect via a proxy)
|

Can
I use ONSPEED with my mobile phone?
Yes. You must be connecting to the internet using a
mobile phone from your PC or laptop which has the ONSPEED
software installed.
If you are using a GPRS connection, where you are charged
for the data you up/down load, there is also the added
benefit that, due to compression, your phone bill will
be substantially lowered because of the reduction in data
received. This can result in up to a 90% reduction in
costs since mobile phone providers charge per MB downloaded.
Web pages that normally take 25 seconds to load will
load in less than 6 seconds.
Wireless users on a (9.6Kbps) regular mobile phone
connection will feel that they are running on a narrowband
(56Kbps) connection with up to 5 times increase in speeds
including downloading of email.
|

Does
ONSPEED speed up email?
Yes. ONSPEED can reduce the amount of time it takes
to send and receive e-mail. ONSPEED accelerates e-mail
transparently without any user intervention, so you can
use your e-mail program exactly as you normally would.
It is compatible with any standard IMAP/POP3/SMTP client,
including Outlook Express, Eudora, Mozilla Thunderbird
and Netscape Mail. E-mail acceleration is enabled by default.
Please note: ONSPEED does not speed up e-mail for MAC
users.
